At Nowruz, the Persian New Year, it's customary to set out a sofreh haft seen, a table laid with symbolic objects that herald good things for the coming year. A goldfish, representing life, is a key element. This year, try a marzipan goldfish! Fashioning foods like fish and fruit out of marzipan almond paste is an old Sicilian art form still practiced at traditional bakeries, and that's the inspiration for the marzipan goldfish. Iranians also have a tradition of shaping marzipan into pretty little confectionery toot, mulberries. Borrowing this whimsical idea means you get a beautiful goldfish that you can save for next year by simply storing in a cool, dry place. Order includes one marzipan goldfish, 6” long x 1.5” wide. Goldfish are handmade and painted so there will be slight variations and imperfections.
